Learn to read and translate light and shadow — the single most important skill in painting. Prerequisite for Values 2.
Clouds 1 — Painting Newfoundland Skies
We will explore a variety of cloud works as well as Newfoundland skies and finish with our own final piece.
Water 1 — Understanding Water
We will first explore a variety of water types and then finish with our own piece.
Colours 1 — Reading & Mixing Colour
How colour really works and how the masters used it. Prerequisite for Colours 2.
Values 2 — Value in Colour: the NL Landscape
Practicing finding values in colour and finishing with our own piece. Must have Values 1 to register.
Colours 2 — The Colours of the Coast
Mixing with intention and colour relationships that give a Newfoundland painting life. Must have Colours 1 to register.
The Red Fishing Stages
Simplifying the Newfoundland landscape to create your own piece. Lunch included.
Rocks 1 — Beach Rocks
We will examine a variety of beaches from around NL and then finish with our own beach rocks piece.
Plein Air to Studio
Turn the sketches and photos from our Art on the Water cruises into finished studio paintings — a relaxed full-day session with lunch.
